JUICE CLEANSE

Well, it happened, I survived a one day juice cleanse! My curiosity to do a juice cleanse peaked about 3 years ago, and I finally decided it was worth the investment come the new year. I’m a food alcoholic, and a lot of my time my eating is actually determined but what texture I want to satisfy a craving. For e.g. chips for their crunch, swedish berries for the chew or sushi for the cold texture (yes we’re talking treats). BUT I’m curious how you can ‘survive’ off of just juice. I mean I make the occasional smoothie here and there but that’s only for one meal!

I ordered my juice cleanse through my favourite grocery delivery service SPUD, which many of you are probably sick of hearing me talk about. But if not, here’s my blog postall about it! They’re committed to bringing organic and local ingredients to your door step and it couldn’t be a better option for me. Helps me eat better, saves my back from walking to the grocery store when carrying my haul (I don’t have a car) and makes me proud to be supporting a small business.

Okay back to the juice cleanse…SPUD teamed up with The Juice Box which is located in East Van. P.s. this blog post and journey is not sponsored or endorsed by either company (aka no money for moi), I just enjoy supporting and sharing Vancouver companies!

I only did a one day cleanse (to keep it budget friendly) which came with 6 juices!

Apple Lemon Ginger
Carrot Orange Ginger
Turmeric
Light Green
Deep Green + Lemon
The Beat

I drank them in that order about 2  – 3 hours apart throughout my day.

I was warned ahead of time, by doing a little bit of research, that the day you choose to do a cleanse should be a really chill day in your schedule. You’ll have to go the bathroom A LOT, and will need to constantly be sipping water and/or a tea while drinking your juices. Not ideal if you have meetings, running errands, doing high intensity physical activity, you want a mellow day. For me it was a work day, which meant sitting at a desk and being Front of House Manager for a show in the evening, an easy day for me!

My FAVOURITE juice of the whole day was the Apple Lemon Ginger, this is something I could drink every morning. It just tastes like a deluxe apple juice. My least favourite were the two green juices which came as not surprise to me. I don’t like Kale or Parsley very much which both bottles had lots of. I understand their good for you, and contain other nutrients than the other ones, but doing one big sip of the green and chasing it with a purple or orange, made it much more bearable.

My thoughts for next time, which I would do one again, is to drink more tea and take an even calmer day. When I started the morning I forget I had an extra work shift in the evening which kind of screwed plans up. I would choose a day where I could be home the entire time to really focus. I would drink more tea just to keep me warm, alongside pushing to drink more water.

The next day too! I did not drink enough water the next day. You don’t really feel the affects of your cleanse the next day, but for me there were minor signs. Feeling a little sluggish, a little dizzy if I stood up too quickly and odd hunger cravings. The day after I wish I would have almost treated it like day 2 of the cleanse in slowly eating solid foods and drinking the same amount of water.

Would I do it again, heck yes! Do I suggest for you to challenge yourself, yes! And if you need a ‘partner in crime’ I’m down for round 2! I felt flushed of toxins, released of all my binge eating (happens too often) and accomplished for completing a mission I had set my mind to!
